Break Through School Provides SEND Support Training to Charlton Athletic Football Club

In November 2024, staff from Break Through School, part of Melrose Education, had the privilege of delivering training to coaches at Charlton Athletic Football Club, focusing on supporting neurodivergent players. With the increasing prevalence of conditions such as ASD and ADHD in education, these challenges are also becoming more evident in sporting environments.

The training aimed to equip Charlton’s coaching staff with the knowledge and tools needed to better understand the unique needs of neurodivergent players and optimise their potential on and off the field. The session covered key topics, including recognising signs and symptoms of neurodivergent conditions and implementing strategies like the Zones of Emotional Regulation.

The session was highly successful, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the insights gained. Chase Hill, Head of Academy Player Care, shared his feedback:

“The theory side of the training was thorough, particularly in identifying signs and symptoms. Our staff really bought into the Zones of Emotional Regulation, and we’re hoping to embed this academy-wide. It was truly great CPD with actionable strategies we can build on here at Charlton.”

Break Through School is proud to collaborate with Charlton Athletic to foster inclusion and understanding within the sporting community. By sharing expertise, the school continues its mission to empower individuals and organisations to support neurodivergent individuals and create environments where everyone can thrive.
